EFSA Offices Reports. EFSA SCM 5 th August 2025.
The later EFSA Standing Committee Meeting (SCM) in 2025 were held on Tuesday 5 th August at
FAB 8 House, Fedje, Norway and started at 14.00. Representatives from nine Sections attended
the meeting. At the SCM past championships and future championships were discussed and the
EFSA Officers reports were presented.

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
Dear members and friends of EFSA!
It has been 5 months since we last came together for our AGM and spring SC meeting in
Richmond.
In HQ we have been busy coordinating this year and future championships across our disciplines.
I think we are looking very well set up now until 2027.
Work has already started on our first electronic only version of the EFSA yearbook.
I am personally very happy with the way our website has been developing. Regular content
updates are coming in – however, as always it could be more. For this we do need your input.
Another initiative that kicked off a year ago in Weymouth is our specimen award. This is also
growing nicely in popularity.
Fishing has been also fantastic in the first half of the year owing to the fine weather we had. The
shark species championships in Neeltje Jans, Netherlands was blessed with summerly
temperatures and no wind. Some big fish were caught there too. I must congratulate EFSA
Netherlands for a very well-run championship. I would be happy to return for this if they offered
organising it again.
Our EFSA European Boat Fishing Championships are bringing us together again in Norway.
Fishing has always been fantastic whenever we have come to these shores. I am sure this year
will be no exception. I am wishing EFSA Norway a successful championship!
2025 will conclude in Langeland, Denmark where EFSA Germany will be hosting the EFSA
European Shore Championships. As far as I know preparations are well under way.
I hope all anglers will enjoy their fishing here in Norway and elsewhere.
Marcus Wuest, EFSA President/Chairman.
July 2025.

SECRETARY’S REPORT
2025 has been an up & down year for me. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the spring SC
meeting & AGM due to illness. I would like to thank EFSA executive for running both meetings
& sending me the notes to compile the minutes.
The publication of the digital yearbook has unfortunately been delayed & is now scheduled for
September.
I was unable to attend the species championship in The Netherlands. I’ve been told it was a very
well run & successful event. Congratulations EFSA Netherlands.

On the home front EFSA Ireland have had 2 boat events cancelled due to bad weather. They are
now finding it very difficult to reschedule due to lack of available boats.
A small group from EFSA Ireland attended the EFSA England Boat Championship in Newquay
in July. It was a very enjoyable few days in glorious weather. Thank you, EFSA England.
The EFSA website is up & running & looking good. Thank you Thorir for your perseverance.
Finally, may I wish EFSA Norway the very best with this current championship.
Warren Doyle, EFSA Secretary
July 2025

TREASURER’S REPORT
The EFSA finances are in a strong and stable condition, with a very similar end of year balance
over the last few years.
The HQ Levy income is reducing just about year on year as membership numbers for most
Sections are reducing. On the subject of HQ Levy I will ask again, can Sections put their country
as reference for the transfer so I can mark them as paid, for 2025 there are still 3 payments that I
have not entered a country by in the accounts, I will contact the countries that I know most likely
have paid so can confirm those that have not.
One large expense for 2025 was the building of the new website. Now it is up and running, there
will just be the yearly maintenance and hosting charge each year. On the Website, if anyone has
any comments or suggestions on the website then please contact me or Thorir.
Report by Kim Bowden.

GAME FESTIVAL OFFICER’S REPORT
Review of Championships held at Hout Bay, Cape Town, South Africa – 6th May to 10th
May 2024.
The Championships were excellently organised by SADSAA and the Hout Bay Boat Club.
Fishing was only possible on two of the four designated days due to strong winds. Only five
anglers caught fish on the first day, but sixteen anglers caught on the second day, with some
anglers catching two or three fish. Twenty-seven anglers from eight sections fished on nine boats.
The event was won by Iceland with a South African Team second and a Barbarian team third.

SUPPLIES OFFICER´S REPORT
Standing Committee Meeting 5 th August 2025 at Fedje, Norway
Medals, Venue Bars and Pins for the Events 2025
The orders for Medals, Venue Bars and Pins have been completed for the events in the
Netherlands (Species) and Norway (Boat). The Order for the event in Denmark (Shore) is
currently being prepared.
New EFSA Pin for special services
Based on the idea of designing a new pin for special services, you will find the first draft
attached. I ask you to consider this proposal and to let me know how this matter will be dealt
with.

Internet Shop
The aim is to offer members the opportunity to order EFSA clothing independently from a
partner, the delivery is Europe-wide, the member is billed for good quality and provided the
clothing at a good price.
We found just such a partner. Their stores for EFSA clothing with specified logos and individual
design options were set up and checked by Marcus and me.
The suggestions for improvement we requested were implemented as far as possible. Result
should be presented today.
On 15.07. I received the news that the company has reoriented itself and will no longer operate in
this business area!
I will continue my search to find a new partner.
In the meantime, please order directly from me. An order form with various questions (order
quantity, color, size etc.) will be available on the homepage shortly.
I have already received an order from Iceland, which I will use as a test.
Best regards,
Hans-Juergen Glaeser, EFSA Supplies Officer.

PR OFFICER’S REPORT
Dear EFSA members, ladies and gentlemen!
At the SC meeting in London 1st March 2025 a status report was submitted about the work done
constructing EFSA´s new website. Since February this year the work has been ongoing to add
new content to the website: tables, texts, news and more.
Collecting information about EFSA Species Championships 2001 to 2025 and EFSA Game
Championships 1990 to 2024 was a success. The two lists are almost 100% only missing which
team won the Game Championships in Kenya 1993.
With help from many former EFSA Officers and EFSA Members e.g. David Styles, Massimo
Brogna, Arthur White, Edward (Ted) Entwistle, Alastair Forsyth, Robert Kanora, John O´Connor
and more, and from some present members of EFSA HQ the work was successfully done.
Without help from all these members of EFSA the work would not have been possible, and I
thank them all very much.
A total of 20 Game Championships has been organized since 1990 with average number of 48.15
competitors competing in the Game Championships. A total of 23 Species Championships has
been organized since 2001 with average number of 63.0 competitors competing in the Species
Championships. Only one Species Championship had to be cancelled due to bad weather (San
Benedetto Del Tronto, Italy in 2013) and two cancelled due to Covid-19.
When info about new Game or Species championships have been sent out the website is updated
accordingly (see the website https://efsafishing.org-Records-Trophy Winners).
I would like to remind the Sections to send in their Specimen lists to publish them on the website
in the Record-Sections Specimen List subpart. Now we only have lists from three sections:
England, Iceland and Ireland.

I stress that it is necessary to let all the members of EFSA know about the new website and its
content and thus increase the viewing and the traffic to the website (https://efsafishing.org).
As is known, most young people get their news and information from social media and not from
newspapers, TV or radio, or by e-mail or from websites. EFSA much find a way to improve their
skill using and communicating with young people by using social media. Maybe the answer is to
find a young member of EFSA that knows or is familiar with using social media and can
communicate with other young people and thus try to attract them to our sport.
Reykjavik, 29 th July 2025.
Thorir Sveinsson, EFSA PR Officer.

SHORE FESTIVAL OFFICER´S REPORT
Phil Lustig gave his report by zoom.
He advised the meeting that everything was in place for the 2025 Shore Championship in
Langeland, hosted by EFSA Germany.
He noted that he will not be in attendance. He also advised that 2026 Shore Championship in
Noordwijk, Netherlands was being well organised.
He also reported that EFSA Wales were now unable to host the 2027 event.
My regards,
Phil Lustig Shore Festival Officer HQ.

FISHERIES OFFICER´S REPORT

Good afternoon EFSA Delegates, ladies and gentlemen!
Firstly, may I give my apologies for absence, but the Wedding went well! Not mine but one of
my stepdaughters.
So, as always, I start with Record claims, and again none have been claimed so far this year. I
have had one claim which was hoped to be a new European shore caught record for a Golden
Grey mullet, from Weymouth harbour. Sadly, upon inspection it transpired that the fish was more
likely to be a Thick lip mullet. This in part was due to the quality of the pictures taken by said
angler. This potential claim was dismissed at an early stage by The Fish recorder in Weymouth
club. No clear pics were received of the fish showing head and mouth. Anyway, this just shows
the need to take numerous pics, as it only takes a second, to take 1 or 5 pics.
Line class records. I have recently received one possible entry so far and I would put that in the
pending file as I haven’t received all information at this time yet.
Last year I received the line testing equipment back from the Danish section via Martin Hubert
and I thank him for this. This will in future speed up the process of carrying out the line testing
for claims. The equipment has now been checked out to confirm it can be used with 240v electric
as used in England.
With line class records Warren and I have been discussing the fact that there are still a lot of open
categories within the records since the entry level of 450g (1lb) has been lowered. There are
some species that will in time be entered. For example, the Greater weaver caught regularly

around the 700g mark. But sadly, our weather has been poor this year, and a few trips have been
cancelled due to the wind. So, this category is still Open!
Specimen Awards. Well, I am still working on the list I have generated by looking back through
the score sheets which weren’t initially available, for the last Europeans held at Weymouth, I
have been in contact with some but not all, this will be resolved soon.
Breaking News!
The Germans have arrived, and I would like to congratulate Katrina on securing the first
Specimen boat award for her Ling in Fedje. I must also congratulate Marcus on capturing a
further 2 specimen Ling in Fedje yesterday. There may be more, if so, please get in touch.
The specimen awards are a new award, and the process of claiming & recording are all on the
website. Some sections are currently working on their own specimen sizes and as always will
encourage and help if needed with this. After Weymouth with the amount of Black Bream
specimens that were caught, I thought I would this year check out and record my own catch. So
far this year I have caught 76 Black Bream over 5 trips, at various locations along the south
coast. Of these 3 have been notable but falling short at only 37cm.
In conclusion, when you do find the specimen fish, please take time to take pictures, along with
measurements, and forward please, to avoid disappointment. I would like to wish you all.
Tight Lines and look forward to seeing you all soon.
Neil Cottington.
