Olafsvik, Iceland 2014

The European Species Championships 2014 was held on Friday 30th to Saturday 31th of May 2014
from Olafsvik in West Iceland with 81 anglers: 7 ladies, 14 seniors and 60 ordinary/annual/life members.
The anglers came from 12 Sections: Belgium, Denmark, England, Germany, Gibraltar, Iceland, Ireland,
Italy, Norway, Portugal, Russia and Scotland.

The fishing
The targeting fish in the Championships was Cod and the point system was divided into four length
categories: 45 cm to 60 cm, >60cm to 75 cm, >75 cm to 90 cm, over 90 cm. Fishing was for two days
with 15 boats and 4 to 7 competitors on each boat. The total number of Cods accounted for was 3.516:

Numerous other fish was caught such as a sizeable coalfish (over 10 kg) but these fish did not count in the
Championship.

Results:
EFSA European Species Championships – 29-31 May 2014

The Championship was fished to the General Rules for EFSA Boat Championships. The angler with the most fish points on board was the boat winner with 100% score. If there were two anglers with the same number of fish points then the winner of a boat was the angler with the most fish.

In the Championships there were 12 A- and B National Teams, 2 from Gibraltar, 2 from England, 2 from Iceland, 2 from Italy and one from Russia, Ireland, Portugal and Scotland. The number of two man teams was 37 and 4 man teams 17.

A five man Protest Committee was appointed but no protest was recorded during the Championships.

The Awards and social events
The Prize giving ceremony and the Gala-dinner was held at restaurant Röst in the nearby village of Hellissandur on Saturday 31th May. The total number of prizes awarded was 61; for the first, second and third place in the Individual and Lady class, for Life member and Senior (1., 2. and 3. place), highest Two man team and Four man team (1., 2. and 3. place), highest National team of five (1., 2. and 3. place), highest Executive team of four (1., 2. and 3. place) and longest Cod (1., 2. and 3. place).

A special trip was organised for the spouses (12) of the competitors in the Championships, a day tour on Friday around the glacier Snæfellsjökull with numerous stops and refreshments on the way with an English speaking guide and a senior member of EFSA Iceland living in Olafsvik.
